The Middle East presented perhaps the most challenging combination of national security concerns during the Bush and Obama eras.
The transition placed special emphasis on particular nations (Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iran) and on broad topics which affected the entire region (nuclear proliferation, the war on terror, and the ongoing quest for peace).
